Insurance Companies versus the Rich Doctor

Having insurance in this day and age is a very good thing. I can't complain because there are a lot of people that are less fortunate that I am and don't have any insurance. I have Anthem insurance through my company and they typically take the majority of the sting out of any medical bills that come about. Its when Doctor's decide the push the envelope and choose not to participate with insurance companies that things go array. They are trying to make the most that they can. Of course the insurance company is trying to pay as little as they can. Guess who wins in this little battle? They both do. Guess who loses? You know the answer. I am sure all of you that are reading this have been there. It just doesn't seem fair. There should be some way to make this a win win win, but I don't see that happening. There is no leverage on either the insurance company or the doctor. The hold all of the cards. We hold the bag.

As though it's not difficult enough making a decent living to retire comfortably as I should be able to do. I had to do whatever was necessary to make it after I retired. I actually did get a nice sum of money from selling one of my life insurance policies in a life insurance settlement, though.

Sure, there's a way to remedy this: get rid of the insurance companies, go back to the old pay-as-you go method, which actually resulted in lower medical bills. It's true. The first visit I made to an OB-GYN, I paid $40 for the visit; if I'd had insurance, the Dr. would've charged $100 (they told me this at the reception desk). Of course, that was 15 years ago. Back then, almost no one filed for medical bankruptcy, and I had never heard of a case in my community of doctors and hospitals not working with a patient, no matter who they were, how much money they made, or whether or not they were insured. Sometimes people fell through the cracks, yes, but not nearly as many as do now.

My insurance company didn't cover when I went to the doctor for a cold, they said it was a pre-existing condition...!!!
